Original Animation Cels
Here at our gallery we have beautiful, original animation cel collections that date back to the early 1900s. Early,
original animation cels were created using cellulose nitrate film. The animator would draw the outline on the front of the original animation cel and then paint his character’s colors on the cel’s back to reduce the appearance of brush strokes. Later in the 20th century, the animators would use celluloid acetate, which is still being used today. Eventually, cels will be replaced by computer-generated imagery.
